Japan 2019 - Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto

Finally.

I mean finally, I was able to realize one of my dreams, and that is to visit the land of the rising sun  - Japan. You see, in my previous blog posted last 2017, (Dreaming of Japan 2017) I wrote about my fantasy visiting Japan. Unfortunately, I missed the chance back then. So now, it is with so much excitement that I want to share with you my 2019 Japan travel experience featuring not only one - but three cities in Japan : Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto!

Tokyo

I honestly fell in love with Tokyo. It is very neat, private, busy yet quiet, lively, and everything just seems so organized in here. I do not wonder why.
Time. As we all know, for Japanese people, time means respect, and it's plain to expect that all transport would arrive in their scheduled time.

Safe and secured. It was very safe to walk around Tokyo even at night. The people are so accommodating and polite. They help us find our hotel patiently, some even lead us the way to the streets when we do not know which way to go. ♥ I love Nippon people, Arigatou..πŸ’—
Alright, let's now move on to the itinerary and the tourist spots in Tokyo:

Tokyo DisneySea

We have the option to choose from Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, but since we already have seen what Disneyland looks like in Hongkong, this time we chose to see what a DisneySea looks like. I heard that the Tokyo DisneySea is more of the adult version of DisneyLand, so yeah, let's go adults! 😁

My eyes are full.😍😍😍😍With this scenic views, rest assured that your pictures taken at Tokyo DisneySea will be IG worthy.

You might also want to experience some extreme rides but expect to fall in a long queuing line as usual.

Kimono Rental in Asakusa

Yay!! I'm so loving the look in this Japanese Traditional dress. Felt like I become a real Japanese for one moment. πŸ˜„ For anime fan like me, we've been seeing characters in manga wearing kimono and we couldn't help but to dream trying them on, too. But honestly, I never thought that kimono has several layers inside and putting on this dress would really need somebody else's hand. It was intricate and is full of art! We tried this in Asakusa since there are some temples here that are perfect for photo ops while wearing the kimono.

Hachiko and The Busy Streets of Shibuya
Shibuya crossing is one of the busiest streets in the world. Can you imagine how many people are crossing the street? Too many! And that's everytime, as in everytime the light turns green.
Oh yeah, there's Hachiko beside me.

Other Tourist Attractions

Of course, the Mt. Fuji must always be in your list. According to the tour-guide, the best time to visit the Mt. Fuji is around March when the snow is melting so you can have the perfect view of the Mt. Fuji with snow on its cone. You can imagine it right now, huh? Other places to visits are, Harajuku where you can have your anime finds; Nature Parks GB  such as Yoyogi Park, Shinjuku Gyoen National Park, Senzokuike Pond, and a lot more. It's amazing to learn that we can find a lot of nature parks within the busy streets of Tokyo.

Mt Fuji             Yoyogi          Senzokuike  Shinju Harajuku

Osaka

Eight hours! That was an 8-hour bus ride to get to Osaka from Tokyo. We took the night schedule that is why we actually didn't notice the long travel since we were sleeping the whole time.
'Why travel to Osaka?', you might ask.
Oh well, Osaka is known for delicious foods such as Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki! Oh boy, just the thought reminding me how tasty and delicious their Takoyoki makes me really really drool. Who can resist that large chunk of Octopus meat?πŸ™

Dotonburi

Dotonburi is the most popular food district in Osaka. I also find that the souvenir items here are a lot cheaper than in Tokyo. And yup you're right, here is where the famous Glico sign can also be found. Take some time to capture your photo opportunity with the Glico sign. ✌

Kyoto

Known for temples and shrines, many of which are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage. I, myself, couldn't contain the bewilderment when I get the chance to see the Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion). Kyoto is really a must on your list when you visit Japan. And have some of their tofu menu - especially their signature Tofu ice cream. Yummy!🍦

This is it for now. I will be posting another post about Japanese foods, so stay tuned!. Meanwhile, feel free to watch this 5 -minute Japan Travel goals video.

Epic Korea Adventure 2019

It was a day after Valentine.
My best friend and I were having dinner at Bonchon.
We were into our usual unending chitchat about the day and the future when she suddenly think out loud, "Punta kaya tayong Korea?"
And I was like, "Ok"
And right after meal, we immediately looked for a studio and had our visa photo taken. πŸ“Έ (yung akala mo joke lang, totoo na pala) #hugot
Some travels happen when unplanned.
The next day, she booked the airfare for the month of March and processed our visa application.
Waiting for the visa application result.
This is the part where we became crazy like idiots.
We had the apprehensions like what if we get denied?
What about the airfare that we have booked?
'Cause, those are non-transferrable.😣
But really, waiting for the visa application result was like forever to us. Though it only took two weeks, to me it felt worse than waiting for my board exam result. Ok, I exaggerated on that part, it wasn't worse than waiting for the board exam result but, it's still not a good feeling. #WaitingGame
And the result was released. We managed to check their portal every now and then (we did that for two weeks) so we're updated real-time on the status. Our applications were approved.
Relieved.
Thank You, Lord.
5- day Vacation leave filed. ✌
Here's the link to check the Korea Visa application status:

Touch down, KR!
Airport. Jaw-dropped.
I personally believe that Airports give the first impression to arriving tourists. And I'm deeply impressed with Incheon International Airport. It's Korea, what do we expect? πŸ˜‰
First thing while at the airport, we picked up the pocket wifi that we have rented online a day before our flight.  ✔
Then we rode the AREX train from Incheon all the way to Seoul. Less than 60 minutes)
🚝
Conquering Seoul.
5 days are not enough. There's a lot to discover about Seoul- it's people, culture, food, places, and more. But we had to squeeze the time and visit the must-see places when in Seoul.
Number one on the list, Gyeongbokgung Palace. Just around the Palace, you can find stores that rent-out Hanbok (Traditional Korean dress) for as low as 10,000 KRW for 2 hours plus free hair braid service. When you rent a Hanbok, you can roam inside the Gyeongbokgung Palace for free. And roaming inside the Gyeobokgung Palace was my favorite part of our Korea Adventure. It was because, while wearing the Hanbok and the Palace as my background, I felt like I was part of the K-drama Jewel in the Palace - Jang Geum. What?! Jang Geum? What year was that? #TitaOfManila
That was me playing the role of a little princess. Charot. Photo taken by LCN.
Protip. You can wear the Hanbok anywhere, not just inside the Palace, as in roam anywhere. Just make sure to return the rented Hanbok within the given time.

Myeongdong Market. The go-to place to buy souvenirs. There's so much we can find here especially Korean beauty products. Innisfree, Tony Moly, Nature Republic, Etude House, name it! Yes, we get a haul of the Korean Face masks! Who wouldn't when they sell it with free packs? 😍 And oh the Korean snacks. Why do they have yummy snacks, they are just so good! My personal pick would be Murgerbon flavoured Almonds -red bean flavor, and honey flavor, and strawberry flavor, even the wasabi flavor and all the other flavors! I want them all! Also, Street-food was everywhere. We got to try the Octopus bbq. It's tasty. πŸ™Before I forgot, we also bought nail-cutters, the best-seller souvenir from Korea. But of course, a niece requested for a sticker souvenir of BlackPink. It's very easy to find posters and stickers of Korean Icons in Myeongdong.

Naminara Republic (Nami Island). Insert 'Endless Love: Winter Sonata' Soundtrack 🎼. Right, this where most part of that KoreanDrama took place. Maybe because Nami Island is most lovely and romantic during winter season.πŸ’– Winter was almost over when we visit so we only found few traces of snow in the waters but still, it's freezing cold at 4 degrees. Luckily, the sun was kind to us it kept us warm. Try renting a bike when in Nami Island. We rented bicycles to explore the island faster. It was genuinely fun. I can't remember, when was the last time I rode a bike.?

We also had some time to visit the following during our stay: Petite France, N Seoul Tower, Love Lock, CoEx Aquarium. Starfield Library and Cheonggyecheon Stream. πŸ‘Œ πŸ’“

Petite France

Since our hotel was located in Sinchon and very near the Train Station, exploring places in Seoul was very accessible to us. Plus, the transport system was very efficient. We also had a lot of walking, transferring from one station to another. Koreans love to walk I guess, even on heels. (I kenat) One whole day on boots and I had swollen feet.

Here's a video that sums up our 5-day Epic Korean Adventure in 1.5 minute. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

Oh the Korean food.. Maybe in another blog. 😁

Trek to Baler's Light-house

It must be a wrong timing to climb the famous Baler Lighthouse -that was June, when the rainy season normally starts in the Philippines.

A day before our visit, it actually rained all day. Still we decided to go despite the sloppy and rocky terrain ahead of us. I tell you, it was very steep too! I really had a hard time during the trek as I am not really used to trekking. I had to be careful in every step keeping in mind that the soil is too mushy and I might slip anytime (which I am really prone to) and I also had to be careful on where to hold on to. ( with where, I mean bunch of grass strongly planted on the ground)

It was noon time then. There was no sign that a rain would fall. The sky was clear and I saw how the clouds kiss the mountains. The sun shone above us. It should have been wonderful but it was terribly hot.

With less than an hour of climb, we finally reached the Light-house. Yeah, the Light-house. First thing we did? No, no. Not selfie. Rather, we find shed and slouched ourselves against the wall. We're too tired and exhausted! Too tired that I can feel how my heartbeat pounds so loud and fast. I thought my knees were shaking too.

After regaining  the strength,we all stood up and started to climb the Light-house. Goodness! I mean Goodness! The view on top was breath taking indeed. I could only shook my head in awe. (I was open-mouthed too,I reckon)
I can feel the warm breeze touching my face, I felt relaxed. It was amazing to stare at the vast blue ocean that surrounds us. It was all worth-it.

It must be a wrong timing to visit the famous Baler Lighthouse -that was June, when the rainy season actually starts in the Philippines. But that what makes our trekking adventure even more exciting and.. rewarding.
